Vendor Leadership Forum meeting 4/27

The regular monthly meeting of the Vendor Leadership Forum (VLF) was held this morning between 9:15 and 10 in the board room at The Regional Center. The meetings are open and held on the fourth Thursday of every month except August and December, from 9:00 (or as soon as a room opens up)-10.

The attendees this month were

Joe, Chair

Vendors:Alana, Kai (Cathay), Doug and Edith

Regional Center staff: Roxy, Joyce

At the meeting there was discussion of next steps. The main points were:
1. Depth of interest in training of vendors in Person-Centered Thinking should be assessed to determine how often the first trainings should be scheduled.
2. VLF members and service users should be communicating directly. Alana will contact families participating in the Mark Starford training to set up a meeting which will be open to families and vendors generally.
3. The upcoming Learning Group meeting (Next Friday at 2PM at CHOICESS 135 Live Oak, Arcadia) will compare where we are on the PATH (click here to see) with where we planned to be.
4. We need accountability in process and clients and families are good agents of that.
5. Families interested in person-centered services should be encouraged to set up a website/weblog like this one which can be linked to advance conversation.
6. World Cafe facilitation methodology may be useful in communitywide conversations.

The meeting adjourned early proving that anything is possible.

Attendees, I'm a lousy note-taker. Did I miss anyone or anything?

Truth, of course you can use this space to express yourselves. I'd like to recommend your setting up your own blog as well. You may email me at dougpas at pacbell dot net if you need assistance.

The reasons I would suggest this are:
1. The parents should have their own space where they wouldn't be reacting to vendors or the regional center.
2. I think it might help build community and share information.
3. Public sharing of what you experience could help hold all of us who serve you accountable for fair treatment and responsiveness.
4. A lot of vendors and regional center staff have it in our best interest to provide you with what you need and/or want. If you or another parent want something which is not available or not known to be available, someone might decide to provide it as a business opportunity.
5. The more links there are among clients, family members, vendors and regional center staff the better the system is likely to be at satisfying end users.

I really would like to volunteer to help set this up if I may. Plus, we could link to one another's sites allowing people who are early on the learning curve to see different perspectives.

Truth, I agree with Doug. While exxpressing your opinions here is encouraged, starting you own blog might be a more effective way to share your thoughts and share information.

Truth, take Doug up on his offer to help set this up. I think it could only benefit vendors and most importantly consumers to understand what we all need to do to in order to better serve our those with developmental disabilities. Plus, I'm sure Doug doesn't have enough to do already!

By the way Doug, I think you got everything from our meeting covered.
