ELARC VAC MEETING 1-24-08

1. OPENING ROUND/INTRODUCTIONS

2. CLARIFICATION/APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF NOV. 07: Minutes approved.

3. FUTURE VAC TOPIC

Skills Development for the individuals we serve: From presence to contribution. This will be discussed next VAC meeting on Thurs, Feb. 28, 2008.

4. GUEST SPEAKER
Miguel Lugo from CAC
Topic:Different ideas to increase consumer participation (i.e. meetings, teleconferencing); What ideas can we share? What does or does not work for VAC? Let's find ways to put consumers in the driver's seat of the CAC.

Ideas: Have Joint meeting between VAC and CAC to discuss/share ideas. Miguel is requesting to meet once during the next month:

-To develop this constant flow of ideas.

-To promote involvement in the CA, and increase consumer (ages teens to adults) participation.

The CAC had a good turnout when a guest speaker presented Sexuality and Relationships. This was a hot topic requested by consumers during a survey and at the Board and Subcommittees retreat last year.

AD HOC MEETINGS SCHEDULED FOR THIS YEAR. Based on AD HOC COMMITTEE, the following Three Outcomes were determined to be important to consumers:

1) Employment, 2)Affordable housing, & 3)Meaningful and Sustainable Relationships.

Other Vendor Feedback/Suggestions: Have other Vendors pass out flyers to consumers who would be interested.

VAC/CAC/FAC need to pull committees together and find ways to create strategies to encourage consumer participation. CAC has been asking for VAC assistance for several years now, and we need to come up with a way to meet.

The CAC and VAC need to create, at a governance level, a time and date to come together. We need to find ways to open the doors to meaningful ways to connect as CAC, VAC, & FAC.

MOTION: COMMITTEE LEADERS SET MEETING DATE TO MEET.

Motion to Meet with CAC and VAC was approved. Date established for CAC/VAC meeting 1st Tues of Feb. 5, 2008 from, 4:00 to 6:00 pm. CAC meets every 1st Tues of every month in the Alhambra office.
